This week (June 22-28, 2008) is National Pollinator Week, and to celebrate, this week Style Chicks is buzzing about all the good that Bees, Birds, Butterflies, and other pollinators do for us. Did you know that 80% of the world’s food crops require pollination?
This week you can learn more about how pollination works, what threats it faces, and what it means for food, the economy, medicine, and how you can help – and win a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit in the process!
To enter the contest, leave a comment containing a fact you learned about pollination from one of these three websites:
- Burt’s Bees
- The Pollinator Partnership
- Haagen-Dazs Honeybee program
We will randomly choose five winners who will receive a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit (a $15 value), which contain the following:
-
Mini Exfoliating Body Bar (.80 oz.)
-
Exfoliating Body Wash (1 fl. oz.)
-
Mini Body Lotion (.50 fl. oz.)
-
Day Creme (.25 oz.)
-
Night Creme (.25 oz.)
-
Eye Creme (packette) (.67 oz.)
-
Full Size Lip Shimmer (.0975 oz.)
One entry per person, please – and be sure to include your e-mail so we can contact you if you win (your e-mail address will not be published or shown in your comment). The contest ends on Saturday June 28th at 11:59 Pacific Time, so be sure to enter prior to then!
Stay tuned all week for reviews of beauty products that our little flighted friends help bring us through their pollinating efforts! And when you are visiting the Burt’s Bees website, be sure to sign up for a free pack of wildflower seeds!
Be sure (or should I say “Bee Sure”) to add beecontest@stylechicks.com to your e-mail contacts so the notification if you win doesn’t go to your spam folder!

Dear Sirs: I would like to win a Burts Bees kit. I learned that bees are endangered and it affects our food supply. If you eat certain flavors of Haggen Dazs they will give money for bee research to stop it.

i didnt know that honeybees were disappearing
Honeybees pollinate one third of the fruit and vegetables we eat. That’s why we’re funding research to help stop Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), the mysterious disappearance of honeybee colonies

I learned that bee pollen is rich in protein and when combined with other natural products makes some of Burt’s Bees great skin care items! We recently got Burt’s Bees in our state and I’ve tried some of the hand moisturizer–great stuff! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂
K. Hardy says
I didn’t know that honeybees are responsible for pollinating 1/3 of all the foods we eat.
Daniel says
I didn’t realize that plants evolved different flowering times in order to not compete as much for pollinators. Cool!

Nearly 80% of our world’s crop plants require pollination–Almonds are 100% reliant on honey bees for pollination.

All I know is that I am trying to plant flowers to attract more bees…think Burts would attract any;)
Kam A says
Without pollinators, humans and ecosystems cannot survive. Due to biodiversity threats such as land development, pollution, and pesticide poisoning, we are losing pollinators around the world at an alarming rate.
kimberly says
honey bees attribute an essential pollination factor amounting to 20 billion dollars worth of products that we eat, drink and wear in the U.S. Thank you for this information and I love your products.
John B says
Almonds are 100% pollinated by bees, which they bring in for the job – without bee pollination, no almonds!!
