Pollinator Week Product Review: Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion for Sensitive Skin
This review is part of our Pollinator Week coverage – read more about it here and enter to win a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit!
A few years ago I went to a wedding of friends that was held on the grounds of a hilltop mansion that was lushly landscaped and heavily wooded. My sister and I had been using Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion for Sensitive Skin of all Ages as our body lotion, which gives a nice scent without being overpowering which was great for our friend’s wedding, since the garden was so fragrant there that no perfume would particularly stand out. We noticed towards the sunset that every one else at the wedding was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, and we didn’t get bit once. We couldn’t quite figure it out, but then I read that bugs hate Rosemary Leaf extract, an ingredient in Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion. What’s really amazing is that you can’t smell the Rosemary Oil at all but time and again, it’s kept me bug bite free without smelling like bug repellent.
In addition to the very impressive bug repellent properties, it makes skin smooth as could be use it for a couple of days and you’ll have a nice glow to your skin (why I originally used it for the wedding).
And like all Burt’s Bees products, the ingredient list is easy to understand no chemicals you have never heard of. And of course, we have our pollinating friends to thank for some of it’s ingredients – including the wonderful Sunflower Seed Oil that works a miracle on skin!

Bee-Stung with Pollen Facts and win a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit!
This week (June 22-28, 2008) is National Pollinator Week, and to celebrate, this week Style Chicks is buzzing about all the good that Bees, Birds, Butterflies, and other pollinators do for us. Did you know that 80% of the world’s food crops require pollination?
This week you can learn more about how pollination works, what threats it faces, and what it means for food, the economy, medicine, and how you can help – and win a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit in the process!
To enter the contest, leave a comment containing a fact you learned about pollination from one of these three websites:
- Burt’s Bees
- The Pollinator Partnership
- Haagen-Dazs Honeybee program
We will randomly choose five winners who will receive a Burt’s Bees Radiance Kit (a $15 value), which contain the following:

Stay tuned all week for reviews of beauty products that our little flighted friends help bring us through their pollinating efforts! And when you are visiting the Burt’s Bees website, be sure to sign up for a free pack of wildflower seeds!
Be sure (or should I say “Bee Sure”) to add beecontest@stylechicks.com to your e-mail contacts so the notification if you win doesn’t go to your spam folder!
Wedding Guest Tip: Make Sure You Are Always HD Picture-Ready
It always happens to me at weddings – the photographer comes out of nowhere and wants to take your picture just as you are headed to the ladies room to fix up your makeup. And worse yet, wedding photographers and videographers now wield HD cameras.
So, you may want to consider some tricks that stars are turning to in order to try to combat the ever-critical HD lens. In order to keep your skin looking wrinkle-free, luminous, and yes, not oily, try a light-diffusing powder. Basically the harsh light of a flash or strobe will bounce off your skin in a non-uniform pattern, thus creating a soft-lens effect – even if the photographer isn’t carrying a single soft-focus lens with him.
If this idea appeals to you, you may want to check out Make Up For Ever High Definition Microfinish Powder. Don’t let the snow-white color of the powder scare you off – the talc-free formulation goes on invisible regardless of your skin tone – simply giving you a flawless, wrinkle/oil/blemish free look – and it makes your skin look like you have an inner glow.
Find it at Sephora.com for $30, and through the month of June, you can get free shipping with code C125P9 at checkout.
