A gentle alternative to Hydroquinone, Civant Meladerm Pigment Correction addresses skin discoloration including age spots. It contains a stellar lineup of effective, powerful, natural ingredients that are gentle to the skin and won’t cause excess irritation.
I am a sunscreen devotee but still managed to get discoloration on my cheekbones. This discoloration is dark, like contour, right on the part of the upper cheek where the highlighter should go. And I have tried all kinds of creams and serums and even with concealer, this discoloration is still there. So I was pretty excited to try a Hydroquinone-free way to deal address dark spots, acne and scars. It combines ingredients proven to lighten discoloration with exfoliation ingredients to tackle all kinds of unwanted pigment issues.

Licorice Root Extract
Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract.
Licorice root contains glabridin, a potent antioxidant that soothes skin.
It lightens dark circles gently, improves uneven tone and skin redness.
It is safe for even sensitive skin. [1]
It removes discoloration naturally from face, throat, and hands
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
A form of Vitamin C.
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a water-soluble C particularly effective in acne treatment and prevention. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a stable precursor of vitamin C that ensures a constant delivery of vitamin C into the skin. [2]
It won’t turn brown or go bad. SAP has a strong antimicrobial effect.
Alpha Arbutin
A natural skin-lightening agent extracted from bearberry. It inhibits melanocytes from producing melanin. Over time this slowly reduces hyperpigmentation. Effective on acne scars, photoaging, age spots, and certain types of dark undereye circles. Pairs well with Niacinamide.
Punica Granatum
Pomegranate Seed Oil contains three times the antioxidants of wine or green tea. [3]
Pomegranate increases skin barrier formation and improves skin hydration.
Testing shows Pomegranate holds double its’ weight in water. Meanwhile, it delivers impressive collagen-building results.
Omega 5 fatty acid reduces skin inflammation and aids in skin repair for scarring, discoloration, and acne marks.
Gigawhite
Gigawhite is a combination of natural herbs and flowering plants that promote skin brightening.
Specifically:
Mallow Malva Sylvestris (mallow) Extract
Mallow is a natural floral extract. It contains Vitamins A, C, and E. It nourishes dry and damaged skin, restoring elasticity. Mallow softens while being gentle enough for the most sensitive of skin.

Cocoa Seed Butter contains a significant amount of polyphenol and flavonoid antioxidants. It prevents peeling skin and keeps skin elastic.
Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract

The root of Baikal Skullcap contains baicalin, wogonoside, baicalein, wogonin, and oroxylin A, all of which are flavones, a type of antioxidant that lend color to various plants and are known to be soothing.
It can help skin better withstand environmental aggressors that can worsen the look of many common skin concerns.

It has antibacterial benefits and studies show it reduces acne.[4]
As with other citrus oils, it is an antioxidant with an uplifting scent.
Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is an anti-oxidant that helps sun-damaged skin.
It is a natural skin lightening agent that lightens sun damage-induced hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the future production of excess melanin.
Citrus Limon
Lemon contains concentrated vitamin C to build collagen, fade age spots and rejuvenate photodamage. Vitamin C reduces excess oil production, shrinks pores, and exfoliates dead surface skin. These reduce the formation of adult acne while treating skin aging.
Lemon is also a natural exfoliator and skin purifier. [5] It alleviates skin inflammation [6] and reduces certain infection-causing bacterias [7] that can leave discoloration.
Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil
Argan Nut Oil deeply hydrates scaly skin and regulates sebum production to reduce breakouts and fades acne scars. It is an anti-oxidant with fatty acids that are like a superfood for the skin.
What it Doesn’t Contain
- Hydroquinone
- Sulfates
- Fragrance
- Mineral Oil
- Parabens
The Experience
Just a pea-size amount is enough to spread very thinly over all areas of discoloration and uneven texture. I put it on acne scars, age spots, under my nostrils, and around my mouth.
It does not sting or cause irritated skin. I love that it is fragrance-free!
I used it daily and in about 3 weeks I saw a big difference in the evenness of my skin tone, my dark spots are lighter and seem smaller, even my decade-old acne scars. Next I am trying it on a childhood scar.
