Forget your sunscreen? Instead of your standard cleanser, brew up some green or white tea, dip a washcloth in it and gently pat your face (seriously, no scrubbing this is not the time to exfoliate). It will take down the inflammation and redness down, and soothes your skin quick. Simple and inexpensive, as well as effective.
Buried alive in beauty products…and I feel fine.
Hey folks,
Sorry for the lack of posting – we’ve been testing out a bunch of new products to share with you, and some of them have been good enough that we sort of forgot to write about them. 🙂 We’re all headed out the door at the moment to go see friends in Westchester, but when we get back, we can’t wait to share some of our latest and greatest finds with you.
And yes, I still think Fekkai Overnight Hair Repair is amazing. Add a little Coiff Piecing and Forming Wax (my latest hair product obsession) to the ends the next day, and you’ll be staring at yourself in the mirror for hours.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Atralin: a prescription retinol with lower possibility of irritation
Just started reading about Atralin, a tretinoin (like Retin-A) that contains moisturizers to lower the chance of irritation. I’ll have to ask my derm about it next time I’m in – this looks promising.
Bra Barrette: You don’t know it yet, but you need it
Interested in better posture? Putting the life and lift back into your favorite bra? Having “Lara Croft shoulders”? Having a better jawline and cheekbones?
Then you need a Bra Barrette.
What is a Bra Barrette, you ask? Instead of making a DIY contraption (string, paper clip, rubber bands, etc) to keep your bra straps from sliding off your shoulders, the inventor of the Bra Barrette had a stroke of genius – how about creating an cute, fun plastic bra strap holder? One that actually works – hook one swirly side under your bra strap, hook the other side to the other strap, adjust to the spot you want it, and you bra and bra straps stay in place all day.
And so the Bra Barrette was invented. Cool, eh?
So let’s take a look at some of the benefits of the Bra Barrette, other than your straps staying in place (which is enough of a benefit in itself!):
A decent part of my workout is working my shoulders and core to get great posture – but holding perfect posture all day really isn’t feasible under all circumstances. The Bra Barrette provides a nice reminder to hold your shoulders back, down, and together – giving you a long, lean, graceful look.
Speaking of working out, I adore the Bra Barrette in the gym – I hate having to pull my bra straps back up when I’m on the bike. If you push it a little farther down on your strap (closer to the band), it also stabilizes your bra like a sports bra but without the discomfort. It’s also great if you wear a tank or cami top to the gym – with all of Bra Barrette’s great designs and optional interchangeable charm packs (check out all the adorable designs!), you can wear your Bra Barrette like jewelry on top of your clothes – and at the same time, keep your bra straps from peeking out from under your tank. I’m loving my copper Bra Barrette with a little sailboat charm attached over my tank! Jewelry that doesn’t look ridiculous at the gym!
And since this is a beauty site, we have to talk about how it makes your facial contours stand out. When you stand with your shoulders in the right place, your neck correctly aligns and you’ll see a more defined jawline and chin. You’ll also see chiseled cheekbones – if you don’t wear a Bra Barrette any other time – wear it when you are putting on your makeup, so you can get a sense of where to contour. And if your chin, jawline, and cheekbones are at their best, then, yes, your lips will look poutier.
And I just thought it would keep my straps from slipping off my shoulders. Silly me.
And the good folks at Bra Barrette now have a Breast Cancer Awareness line of pink Bra Barrettes and all proceeds are donated to Team Bra Barrette for the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. Support a great cause and get a great product!

the liptini lipstick to wear with this
To get a delicate neutral pink lip look to match the BCBG MAX AZRIA Women Natalya Sandals below, start with a base of Liptini’s Pink Whip Lip Pencil and then dab on some Liptini Straight Up Lip Color in Irish Creme. What’s cool about this combination is that you can vary how thick a layer your apply of each based on your skin tone – for instance, in order to have the right shade for my super pale skin, I went heavier on the Pink Whip Base and added a light layer of Irish Creme on top. If you skin is darker, you can go heavier on Irish Creme and still get the same effect – but it your perfect shade. Which is what my favorite lipstick brand Liptini is all about…
